Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation, and Coordination Council (YÖDAK) President Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın Attended the ENQA 2024 General Assembly Meeting.
Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, President of the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation, and Coordination Council (YÖDAK), attended the 2024 General Assembly Meeting of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), held in St. Julian’s, Malta, from 23-25 October 2024. The meeting, organized in cooperation with the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), brought together numerous quality assurance experts and stakeholders from various European countries. The General Assembly commenced with a social program on 23 October.
The main theme of the ENQA 2024 General Assembly was “Quality Assurance Beyond the ESG (European Standards and Guidelines).” The program included sessions addressing quality assurance (QA) in research and the social dimension of higher education. Additionally, extensive activities carried out by ENQA members and affiliates were presented and discussed through case examples during breakout sessions. Participants were also updated on the latest developments in the Higher Education Area (HEA) and provided input on the next ENQA strategic plan.
The opening of the meeting featured an introduction to the Malta Quality Assurance System. ENQA Director Anna Gover presented updates on the Bologna Process work plan and the ESG revision. Presentations shared experiences of countries on external quality assurance in research, while other detailed discussions covered topics like digitalization in higher education and data-informed quality assurance.

Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın emphasized the importance of closely following the developments on ENQA’s agenda and exchanging insights on international quality assurance practices for higher education in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Hocanın highlighted that significant recent developments, particularly in integrating the social dimension with quality assurance in higher education in Northern Cyprus, were addressed at the ENQA 2024 meeting.
Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın noted that his active participation in the meeting represents a significant step towards elevating the quality assurance standards of our country’s higher education institutions to an international level. He affirmed that forthcoming quality-focused initiatives would be pursued with determination.
