Results of the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) Placement Announced

As a result of the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) of Türkiye, 11,587 students were placed in universities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) this year.
Accordingly, 68.09% of the 17,017 available quotas at TRNC universities were filled
According to information provided by the President of the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK), Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, compared to last year, there was a 1.62% increase in the overall quota, but a 4.87% decrease (593 students) in the number of placed students. Last year, 12,180 students enrolled in TRNC universities, whereas this year the number dropped to 11,587.
Prof. Hocanın also stated that the universities receiving the highest number of students were European University of Lefke (EUL), Near East University (NEU), and Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU).
Among these, European University of Lefke ranked first, with 2,537 students placed this year. It was followed by Near East University with 2,493 students and Eastern Mediterranean University with 2,271 students.
In terms of program types, EMU received the highest number of students in undergraduate programs, while EUL ranked first in associate degree programs.
When placement rates relative to available quotas are considered, European University of Lefke again ranked first, with a rate of 81.39%.

General YKS Placement Results
Across Türkiye, considering students placed in formal higher education programs, 502,015 students were placed in state universities (placement rate: 99.4%), and 145,319 students in foundation (private) universities (placement rate: 75.8%).
In state universities, all quotas in programs without a success ranking requirement were fully filled. In foundation universities, the occupancy rate was 72% for programs with a success ranking requirement, and 77% for those without such a requirement.
These figures indicate that economic conditions strongly influenced student preferences, with students favoring state universities.
Registrations Begin on September 1
Registrations for successful candidates will take place between September 1–5. Candidates must follow the announcements made on the official websites of universities. Vacant quotas after the registration period will be opened for additional placements, and it is anticipated that with these, the total number of placed students will approach last year’s figures.
