Meeting Held at YÖDAK with Representatives of the TRNC University Students Association (UNIDER)
On March 18, 2026, the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (YÖDAK), represented by its President Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın and Vice President Prof. Dr. Hasan Amca, received the representatives of the TRNC University Students Association (UNIDER). The meeting, held at the YÖDAK conference hall, was attended on behalf of UNIDER by Doğuş Ertoprak, Tamer Koç, Nisan Akarsulu, and Dilan Yangın.
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place within the framework of UNIDER’s mission and vision, focusing on the protection and enhancement of the academic, administrative, and social rights of university students studying in the TRNC. The association representatives shared their objectives of developing solutions to students’ problems, establishing a unified representation mechanism, and ensuring that the student voice is more effectively heard at both national and international levels.
The UNIDER representatives emphasized the importance of organized and coordinated action, stating that student rights should be expressed in a strong and unified voice. They also highlighted that increasing international representation capacity and strengthening cooperation with global student networks are among their key priorities.
The meeting further underscored the importance of enhancing student welfare, strengthening participation mechanisms, and positioning students as active stakeholders within the higher education system. UNIDER representatives also expressed their commitment to maintaining relations with relevant institutions on the basis of mutual respect and institutional dialogue.
Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, President of YÖDAK, stated that they adopt an inclusive approach encompassing all stakeholders of the higher education system. He emphasized that students’ opinions and suggestions are vital for the development of the system and affirmed that YÖDAK will provide all necessary support to students within the framework of higher education legislation. He also wished the students success in their endeavors.
The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of goodwill and cooperation.
