Hocanın Attends the 8th Turkic Academy Meeting: Cooperation Among Universities to Be Further Strengthened

President of the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK), Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, stated that the decisions taken within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in the fields of education and higher education will further enhance cooperation among universities across the Turkic world. He noted that universities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) aim to play an active role in the joint platforms to be established through their international quality assurance experience and academic expertise.
Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın evaluated the outcomes of the 9th Meeting of the Ministers of Education of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and the 8th Turkic Academy Meeting, both held last week in Turkistan, Kazakhstan, where decisions aimed at strengthening cooperation in education, higher education, and scientific research throughout the Turkic world were discussed.
Representing the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus together with the Minister of National Education, Nazım Çavuşoğlu, Prof. Dr. Hocanın stated:
“Through the establishment of the Quality Board, we aim to share the experience that the TRNC higher education system has gained in international accreditation and quality assurance processes.”
Prof. Dr. Hocanın also noted that efforts will be made to ensure that information on the TRNC’s 23 universities, approximately 106,000 students, and 5,000 academics is included in the database to be established. He emphasized that TRNC universities are already represented in international rankings and expressed the goal of achieving high positions in the university league system that is planned to be introduced within the Turkic world.
The President of YÖDAK further highlighted that demonstrating the international recognition of diplomas awarded by TRNC universities (through the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye – YÖK) and their quality assurance credentials (through accreditations) will make significant contributions toward facilitating student mobility and achieving strategic objectives in higher education.
As part of his engagements in Turkistan, Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, together with Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu, also attended the 8th Turkic Academy Meeting.
Prof. Dr. Hocanın described the Turkic Academy as an important platform that mobilizes the common scientific potential of the Turkic world and stated that the TRNC will continue to contribute actively to the process of integration with the Turkic world in the fields of science, research, and higher education.
He also emphasized that supporting educational initiatives with scientific cooperation will make significant contributions to strengthening joint knowledge production and academic solidarity throughout the Turkic world.
