Inter-University Academic Coordination Council (ÜAKK) Meeting Held at the Presidential Complex
The Inter-University Academic Coordination Council (ÜAKK) meeting, organized by the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK), was held on Thursday, 2 July 2026, at the White Hall of the Presidential Complex, under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, President of YÖDAK, with the participation of university rectors and institutional representatives.
In the opening remarks, emphasis was placed on the importance of collective wisdom, institutional cooperation, and transparent governance within the higher education system. The strategic role of the ÜAKK in shaping higher education policies was also highlighted.
The first agenda item focused on the election process for a new YÖDAK Council Member to be nominated by the ÜAKK, following the expiration of Prof. Dr. Ali Ünyayar’s term of office on 7 June 2026, in accordance with the provisions of the TRNC Higher Education (Amendment) Law No. 65/2005.
Within this framework, participants discussed the application schedule, the establishment of the ÜAKK Membership Selection Evaluation Commission responsible for reviewing applications, the Commission’s working calendar, and the timetable for the evaluation of applications and the election process. Participants emphasized that the entire process should be conducted in accordance with the principles of transparency, merit, and full compliance with the relevant legislation.
The second agenda item concerned doctoral degree recognition (equivalency) applications reviewed by the ÜAKK Equivalency Commission. Based on the Commission’s reports, the applications were examined in accordance with the applicable legislation and resolved accordingly.
At the conclusion of the meeting, consensus was reached on implementing the evaluation processes related to the agenda items in line with the agreed timetable and on informing the relevant institutions and stakeholders of the decisions taken.
YÖDAK will continue to carry out its decision-making processes in close cooperation with universities, guided by the principles of transparency, accountability, and participatory governance, with the aim of contributing to the quality-oriented development of the higher education system.
